The DSA Theory Test
This Test is ‘multi-choice’ and is conducted on a ‘touch- screen’ computer at your local Theory Test Centre. Usually, only one answer is correct but some questions, which will be clearly indicated, will show that more than one answer is required. You must answer all the questions otherwise you will lose marks. Although the questions have been set by the DSA and other Department of Transport divisions, the Tests are conducted by a government authorised private company. The 57 minutes allowed to answer the 50 questions covering the whole syllabus is ample for those who have studied seriously. To pass the Theory Test, you must answer at least 43 questions correctly and also pass a ‘Hazard Perception’ Test identifying ‘Developing Hazards’ on video clips of driving situations where the driver has to slow down or change direction. To pass the Hazard Perception Test, you must achieve a score of at least 44 out of a possible 75.
